With a team-leading 92 yards on the ground and a touchdown, Marshall redshirt-sophomore running back Rasheen Ali was named the 2022 Myrtle Beach Bowl MVP following the Thundering Herd’s 28-14 win over UConn on Monday evening.
In just his third game of the season, Ali rushed for a long of 38 yards and added a two-yard touchdown to complete Marshall’s scoring in the third quarter.
“I just knew I wanted to play hard for our last game,” Ali said. “I’m just super excited that I was able to get the trophy.”
Ali missed the first 10 games of the season before returning to play on November 19th against Georgia Southern. The Cleveland, Ohio native led the 2021 Marshall team with 1,401 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns.
“He had every right to sit the rest of the year out,” Marshall head coach Charles Huff said. “He wanted to come back and play with his team. His legacy will forever be with this team.”
Marshall’s win over UConn in the Myrtle Beach Bowl was their first bowl victory since 2018.
